The Healing Power Of Kefir

Kefir is a cultured drink that helps restore the inner ecology of the body.

It contains strains of beneficial bacteria and yeast that gives kefir its antibiotic properties. “A natural antibiotic” made from milk! It is a tart yogurt style drink with a refreshing taste and contains completely different microorganisms than regular yogurt. Even lactose intolerant individuals find they can drink this!

The mucous like quality of kefir helps to coat the lining of the digestive tract creating a “nest” for the good bacteria to settle.

Kefir is made from gelatinous particles called “grains”, a bacteria/yeast mix clumped together with milk protein and complex sugars. Once the grains ferment the milk, you remove these grains before you drink. These grains are kept for what then becomes your “starter” for the next batch of kefir!

Kefir can also be made with coconut water from the green coconut you see in the stores or Asian markets. This works even better for those you are lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy products.

Kefir is especially good for decreasing sugar and carbohydrate cravings, it tones the intestines, even flattening the abdomen, cleanses the liver and the endocrine system. It will give you great energy and tremendous healing power.

The beneficial bacteria help control the pathogenic bad bacteria, yeast and parasites. Also, it cleanses the colon due to its mild laxative effects. The good bacteria will create lactic acid that balances the pH level of your body, so important for a healthy life.

Donna Gates of The Body Ecology Diet says kefir is beneficial in cases of diarrhea, common problems with AIDS and cancer patients during therapy. Research shows that stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori respond better with kefir than antibiotics.

Protein is critical to healing along with minerals needed to assimilate the protein. So milk kefir has all the minerals, protein, and amino acids to help calm the nervous system. Some say it is like “Natures Prozac” for ADD kids and for sleep disorders. It provides the body with Biotin, Vitamin B6, B12, B1 and Vitamin K
